getting into SHAPE!
Sunday, July 20, 2008 @ 1:12 pm

Pulled myself out of bed at 6am this morning for Shape Run 2008!!

It's the last jogging event for me in SG and with my buddy, Theresa!!

We were late (they flagged off the 10km girls alr :S) and had to squeeze our way through the crowd to get in the start but there was performance so we had to wait for the 2nd flag off of 5km before we start runnning.

It was a really long, long, long journey. I've never ran 10km in my LIFE and here I am, torturing myself through all this??? And i didn't really train up for it too! :/

It's' all in the MIND, TY said, and I really pushed myself hard, with all the thumping songs bursting in my ears, but the turning point at Marina South seemed so near yet so far.....

I stopped to brisk walk 3 times (found out was faster than if I had tried to jog slowly) and finally, the last stretch down Shenton Way, I made full effort to run non-stop and VOILA! I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *woohoo*

And when I saw my dearest MB (who was so sweet to come support me at 7+am in the morning and waited till it was over), I broke down and cried uncontrollaby. I guess they were tears of joy and relief that I finally finished the 10km and all the mental, emotional and physical aspect just tripled the effect caused me to burst into tears. The last time i cried was when we skated for 3 hours at the new ECP Park Connector. I can still feel the heat :/

Nonetheless, it was no mean's feat and I really did it! Am so proud of myself that I persevered to the end. There were so many times I felt I was collapsing and thinking of taking detour or just faint there, so that paramedics will carry me away in comfort. But I hanged on coz I know if the rest can do it, why can't I? Anything that doesn't hit me down, will make me STRONGER. *rahhhh*

As TY was in a rush, we din get to sit down and haf breakfast together and i realised i missed her so much!!! Havent' seen her for 2wks and I really missed her loads :/And all those times, when she, me and hOi were keeping each other updated everyday via sms or calls, I'm missing out :(:(:

Girls, must include me in all your everyday lives updates k? I will be happy to share everything! :P

South Ridges Trail
Friday, May 30, 2008 @ 10:44 pm

Woke up real early one Sunday morning (2 wks ago :P) to walk the latest Southern Ridges trail with Mum and Dad plus my 2nd Aunt and Uncle.

The Southern Ridges Trail is the latest addition by National Parks Board, that let people walk through the southern part of Singapore, through the forests, admiring the wonderful scenery and discover the quaint side of our little sunny island.

One suggestion: If you want to walk the whole route from Harborfront all the way to Kent Ridge Park, I will advise to start real early in the morning like 7am, so that by the time you're half way there, the sun is not too bright and hot, and ideal for a really slow stroll.

Alternatively, the trail is great in the evenings to the Henderson Waves, as lights will lit up from 7pm to 2am, which I think will be a romantic place for couples :P

For the benefit of my readers, I've taken pictures along the way of our trail, so that you guys can roughly picture how it was like walking the entire stretch :)

After alighting at Harborfront MRT, exit at the side of Seah Im Hawker Centre. Next to the public carpark beside, there's a little road called Marang Road. This is the start of the trail, where it will lead you up towards Mt Faber.

Not for the faint-hearted though, coz Dad was having some difficulties climbing the steep stairs. Reminder: Pls wear comfortable pair of sport shoes that has ample cushioning. My aunt and uncle actually worse slippers! *faints* But they didn't complain much, so I guess they're used to it? :P

It was really nice walking up to Mt Faber, as it was usually at night that we drove up some times for drinks at Altivo. Quite a different view in the day too :)

Continue to walk past Jewel Box (where Altivo is) and you will see signs that will lead you down slope (not the stairs, else it will lead you to Telok Blangah instead) towards the entrance of Henderson Waves.

It is possible to drive, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that interesting. It's all the perspiring and work out that makes it more fun! :P:P

After about 1hour, we reached the Henderson Waves bridge! It was unusually crowded in the morning, perhaps after much news publicity about the newly opened trail in the papers.

There are maps with description for each section of the Trail, estimated distance to cover and time required. Too bad it's only in English, perhaps they should have an automated voicebox for introduction or something in future?

After the Waves bridge, you will reach Telok Blangah Hill Park. Supposedly, if you climb up the park you can see a great bird's eye view of Singapore, but we missed it (coz the elderlies were tired) and continued on to the Forest Walk, which is an elevated walkway cutting through thick forests and at it's highest point was 18m above ground.

The Forest Walk was the longest stretch in the Trail, and you will just ease your way through the tree canopy and I'm really thankful that I was able to discover another side of my home island. Away from the busy and buzzing streets, sometimes, it is good to stop for awhile to admire on the nature that we're often too busy to notice. :)

If by then you haven't given up, WELL DONE! :P After the Forest Walk, you will see the Alexandra Arches that links to the new flora hub, Hort Park.

Hort Park is quite near to River Valley High School at Alexandra Road. Saw quite a number of people actually went off to take a bus back to Harborfront MRT, but the 4 elderlies plus me are brave to carry on to Kent Ridge Park! :P

Hort Park was pretty interesting, there are educational exhibits showcasing Singapore's extensive range of flora collection, and a big nursery with loads of interesting bonsai and ideas to decorate your house with loads of greenery! Pretty cool if I have a house like that in future :P

On we go towards Kent Ridge Park, got a bit lost after we walked through the Canopy Walk that links Hort Park to KRP. Road signs wasn't that clear and all we saw was signs to Science Park I. So we took another route and ended up at NACLI camp, where there's FINALLY a bus stop to bring us out!

The whole journey took us 3 hours and by the time we reached 'civilisation', it was already 1230pm! You can totally imagine the sun that we had to bear throughout the trail, and I'm so tanned now!

It was a really great outing and family bonding time. Next stop, HSBC Treetop Walk! :P

We survived 42km of cycling under the hot blazing sun!! *applause*

Theresa and I joined the annual National Runway Cycling and Skating at Paya Lebar Air Base today.

Woke up at 6.30am to reach the place ard 7-ish, and there were so many people with their bikes, from ah pek kinds, to pro ones and the 'zhng' Harley wannabe bikes, plus the skaters and families.

It was quite a cool morning with the slight drizzle before I left the house, but the sun was really eating into our skins at around 1030am when we were on our Final lap.

The whole route or lap is 15km, which includes the runway (3 lanes) and the perimeter of the airbase. It was pretty interesting on the first, coz you don't have much chance to actually riding a bicycle on military grounds. But when we started on the 2nd, I was really tired (blame myself for the initial 'hype' and excitedness of pedalling so hard :/) and disillusioned. Got so tired from the same angle which I'm cycling and the unsheltered terrain really sapped my energy.

Fortunately, I have a great bike mate who encouraged me and setting each water point as our 'short-term' goals and saw us pushing ourselves to our limit. :)

Unfortunately, we were 'too slow'. When we're at the 40km mark, the officers had to redirect us back to the main area as the event is coming to a close (They gave up the 1st prize in the lucky draw when we only started our 3rd lap :S).

Nonetheless, it was a great workout! Felt my tummy flattened by 0.00000000001cm :D:D:D

I love having activities outdoors, it's the cheapest way to get sun-kissed skin and lose weight! :)

ECP Adventure
Sunday, January 27, 2008 @ 10:19 pm

After a month-long hiatus from our usual Saturday activity, we finally get to go out under the sun along the East Coast and ventured onto the new route with the new park connector to Changi!

I think we were amazing! Because:

1) We didn't bring water with us
2) We haven't been skating for 1month
3) We duno wher we're heading to!

And so after 3hours and 20km, we finally survived the treacherous route to Changi and back!

MB was really patient coz half the time, I was yelling and screaming and hallucinating all kinds of funny situations that I might just end up dead without water or dried up from the torturous sun.

We even wanted to hail a cab back to the car at the Changi Ferry terminal but there was none at sight.

So we gamely skated back down that seemingly short (7km) route back to ECP, down the sailing club and back to the car.

I wanted to give up a gezillion times but a voice in my head kept telling me that a POOL of water is waiting for me to quench my dying thirst. Now I know how it feels to run in a marathon.

It's not the distance that's taking a toll physically, but the MIND that is killing. :(:(:(

Nonetheless, I really feel refreshed after everything and 100-plus was a HEAVEN's gift. :P

Thank God that we all made it back in 1 piece, although I become 1 big giant piece of BBQ pork now! hahaha :)

Great Saturday hanging out with my favouritest. More to come!!!

I love these kinda weekends to unwind *bliss*

HOT Saturday!
Saturday, May 26, 2007 @ 10:15 pm

Went blading w MB last Saturday and BOY was it HOT HOT HOT!!!!

I think the temperature was like 32deg at least, coz I was really melting the moment I stepped out under the sun! :/

After 2+ years of hiatus from blading, I finally kept my promise to MB and went blading w him again!! It was the first sport we played together and our first date too! Hahaa time flies really! Has been 4+ years since that first date :P

Anyhoos, i think I'm a GENIUS!!!! What can I say? It only took me about 15min to get back the momentum and after which I was happily gliding down Fort Road!!! And I managed to maintain my glide on one leg longer before switching to the other, that's quite a FEAT!! :D:D

And result after the 2hours blade was a big fat TAN-LINE on my back and super duper sore back and upper thighs!

After which, we walked to Parkway Parade to kill some time before dinner and I bot a top and a headband from m)phosis!!! Everywhere was having up to 70% discount and I was sooo excited!!! But I refrained the urge coz I know I needed the money for Taiwan!! Hopefully, there are some nice stuff I can buy back home! :P

After which, dinner was at Werner's Oven, this authentic German Restaurant at Upp East Coast Road. Saw it on telly for "Sweets for my Sweet" and brought MB to try it!

We ordered a bratwurst and beef burger to share and it was really good! Always love to eat German sausage coz the meat is so tender and juicy *yumms* :P

Check them out! :P

It was a really fun time to spend with MB! and Taiwan HERE I COME!!!!!!!! :P
