Sydney Reunion
Saturday, January 31, 2009 @ 1:41 pm

We planned to visit Sydney during the long weekend for Australia Day, which coincided with the 1st day of CNY!

Tickets were booked way back in Nov as Virgin Blue was having promo sales and finally the day arrived when i get to meet up with my pals again!

At Central Station waiting for HX to join us to take the train to the airport!
It was an awesome moment seeing them again, staying in their 35th floor penthouse that overlooked the Sydney CBD and even the Darling Harbour and we really can't quite believe that the group of us were actually in one room! :P

Group shot at Mrs Macquarie's Chair :)

The Girls

The Guys

As we didn't join them for Port Stephens, YX kindly lent us their car to for the weekend :) So off we drive to Blue Mountains the next day!

Beautiful Blue Mountains - God is truly amazing with His works!

Priceless photo taken by Eug :)

The weather was fantastic when we reached Echo Point, the lookout point where u can see Three Sisters and Jameison Valley at your feet. The wind was possibly blowing at 120km/h and the clouds moved as if someone is chasing them!

We took a short walk along the trails and the scenery was amazing everywhere we stopped to take a look. On such god weather, you can really see blue-ish hue reflecting from the mountains aka the name :)

We took a break and went for a nice brunch at Katoomba village - it was sweltering hot outside at 37deg!!

All day recovery breakfast + pumpkin soup! YUMS~

We got back to Sydney early and went out to check out Bondi Beach and Darling Harbour~

Awesome beach!!! (Eug used a couple of shots and stitched to form collage using photoshop :P)

Us :)

And within a few hours, the sky was overcast and clouds were hanging low and temperature dropped to a cooling 23deg!!

A pic of me and my ex-firm *LOL* I can't find my current one in the CBD area :/

Next day we drove a painful (actually it was Eug who drove) up north to Hunter Valley for horse-riding and vineyards!!~~

Yummy Eggs Benedict at Darlinghurst Road - Le Petit Creme (authentic french!)

Loved the tranquility of the countryside, even the air smells different!
The horse people!

It was our very first time riding a horse, although we didn't really ride it (more of trotting along) it was really a good experience! We had to trot along the line and the owner warned that not all of them are friends, so if anyone wants to go ahead the other, we have to restrain them.

There was little dramas though - Huixin's horse decided to chase up Joyce's and almost threw her off! *phew* We joked that her money was most worth it! :P

Next up was Hunter Valley and we visited Iron Gate winery first - had a mini wine tasting and bought a 2008 Semillon Chardonnay (reall smooth) and a 2006 Sweet Mandela (dessert wine type) to bring home! Yumms~~ The gang bought more for the night's reunion dinner :)

And then another and more commercialised one, Tempus Two with vast landscaped and vineyard!! Loved it too :)

Then we returned back home to prepare our sumptuous CNY steamboat and lo hei!!

Thanks to Yuxuan who bought all the ingredients beforehand! :)

As Singapore was 3 hours behind Sydney (daylight savings) so we practically only started dinner at 9+pm! The food was wonderful and most importantly, the company at the dinner table! It's really amazing having 9 of us all from Singapore and mostly P*C peeps (excld Eug) to gather around in Sydney for Chinese New Year. Thank God!

We took turns to call home and give our wishes to our parents, it's really funny and surreal that we're gathered together but not in Singapore. Hahaha

And we celebrate Kow's belated birthday too~

Tiramisu cake courtesy of Clarice~

Next day, poor Joycey had to go back to work so the rest of us slept in till almost noon before heading out to Fisherman's Wharf aka Sydney Fish Market for fresh sashimi!!

We ordered fresh salmon sashimi, fried fish & chips and salted pepper calamari (that cost us $30!!!), Seafood platter w lobster, king prawns and oysters + our own wine from Hunter Valley. Finger-licking good!!!!

Last stop, we headed off to South Head and we had such fun time taking photos (esp Huixin! :P). It was great vantage point coz on one side u can see the Harbour Bridge and on the other side is the endless Pacific Ocean.

It was a really fun 4d3n weekend trip in Sydney and I'm really glad that I can meet up with my dear friends and have such an awesome time spent together.

More wonderful trips soon!! :)

touch footie + love package from SG
Tuesday, January 20, 2009 @ 8:04 pm

decided to join my colleagues for touch footie at the botanical gardens near our office this evening, simply because I thought I should start the year with a regular exercise and also building up rapport with my workmates :D

I had no idea what was touchie, although Eug did gave me a 5min crash course the night before. But it went pretty well after all!

Basically, touch footie comprises of 2 teams (up to 14 players altog I read) and each team will have a chance to take the ball and pass to your team members either backwards or from the side. Once touched by the opposing team, you have to stop at your 'mark' point, tap our foot and either continue to make a dash for the finishing point or pass the ball sideways or backwards.

A point is scored if you successfully dodged the opponents and place the footie at the finishing line!

I had a chance to pass some balls but was happy that I can see the fun side of my colleagues. There were 1 partner, 2 directors, 2 senior analysts, 3 analysts and 1 trainee. We all had fun albeit most of the time i was catching my breath (lack of exercise!!!)

and Eug picked me up for Super Cheap Tuesday pizza from Eagle Boys (it's $4.50 for a large one every Tues!) and I was welcomed by a love package from my dearest darling hOi!!!!

My Christmas present was the pencil case with all the SG holidays (thanks for reminding you guys have alot of LONG weekends! :/:/:/) and the 2nd one was for me having passed my theory test and learning driving now! It's hilarious!! I shall put it up in my 小黑!:P

Thankew HOI!!! You made my night ;)

my first cell dinner
Saturday, January 17, 2009 @ 10:51 pm

cell started proper on Friday and i volunteered (with the help of Mei, Zoe, Veron & Eug) to prepare wanton mee for dinner!

honestly, i haven't prepared wanton from scratch before but based on my prior experience with my mum, i thought i did pretty well! :D

So glad that everyone liked it but I thought i should otherwise improve on the sauce for the noodles. :)

my wanton soup!!

I've been trying my hands at various asian dishes and I'm proud to say i'm quite a good cook!!

Shall attempt to post up more photos of the products of my culinary skills and simple recipes to share with everyone! :D

Recipe for wanton:
Wanton skin (1 pkt usually serves 50pcs)
Minced Meat 500g
2 small bunches of Scallion chopped into fine pieces (青葱)
200g prawn meat (deveined and deshelled)
100g water chestnut, chopped finely
5 tablespoon of fish sauce
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
2 tablespoon of light soy sauce
Dash of white pepper

Mix all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl with the sauces and make sure mixture is well blend with the sauces.

Use 1 teaspoonful for each wanton and fold the wanton into a small packet and seal it with dab of water on the skin.

Wanton soup:
300g of anchovies (江鱼仔)
1/2 clove of garlic, chopped finely

Stir fry the garlic till slightly brownish in a soup pot, add in anchovies and stir-fry till lightly brown. Add in water to fill up 3/4 of the pot (depends on the number of people). Boil the soup at high heat till the soup is covered with the white pulp of the anchovies. Scoop and discard the anchovies. Put all the wrapped wanton to boil in the soup until it floats on the surface.

Lastly, add in a dash of salt if the soup is not salty enough. :D

*P/S: The above measurements are my 'agar-ation'. I don't usually measure coz i use my 'feel' to put how much sauces I want - it turns out good everytime! *hee* :D:D

we celebrated the homecoming of our dearest pals from homeland with a nice and cosy dinner gathering in the 1st Friday of the year!

We decided that we had enough of Asian food so Italiano was the top choice!

I'd say the novelty of having 1m pizzas with 4 different flavours was definitely intriguing but the taste of it was not as nice as the wood-fired ones *yum~~*. We had a hard time finishing it but the 大胃王 aka Zoe was so good at cleaning it up! Hehe :P

failed attempt to take the pizza
But u can see that it's really 1m long!

It's so good to see everyone back in Brissy! Look forward to more cell gatherings each week :)

folks holiday visit
Friday, January 02, 2009 @ 2:47 pm

time flies~ it has been 2 weeks into my christmas break and the last day of my parent's holiday visit.

There are times when irritation and tempers flew because of differences but at the end of the day, i'm really grateful and appreciative of their love and care and that they flew over to spend this festive season with us :)

Over the past 2 weeks, we went to many different parts of Brisbane, some of which were our favourite hang out places and some were new area which we probably would not have ventured if not for their visit.

~Eumundi Markets~

I always love this market for the vibrant culture displayed and the nooks and crannies you can find!

~Yandina Nutworks & Ginger Beer Factory~

A tourist area for some souvenirs back home :)
~Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary~

Brought them to see the national icons, Koalas and Kangaroos but was a disappointment as most of them were hiding away probably due to the hot weather.

Do what the Aussies do! :P

~Mount Coot-tha Lookout~

Here you can see the entire view of Brisbane CBD and the inner city suburbs (gosh my cherubic face! :/:/:/)

~Sunnybank~

Our favourite place to eat for Asian food! The food maybe pricey but it's really good :)

~Harbourtown~

A car boot full of shopping stash! I think between the 4 of us we spent almost $400!

~Surfer's Paradise~

We only got down to take a snapshot of the beach to prove that we came here. The crowd on NYE was crazy. People don't look where they're walking and it was absolutely precarious to drive down the roads at Surfer's. I still prefer Sunshine Coast :)

~Brisbane City~

Yes they were still buying when we went to the city!! (hah actually that bag was my shoe from Nine West!)

~Southbank Natural History Museum~

it's free entry!

~Southbank Gallery of Modern Art~

FREE as well. We went to see the contemporary art and the theme was Optimism. A wonderful display of colours and attiude :)

~ my apartment~

The folks want to take a photo outside our apartment.

and all of us went to Movie World, which, in my truthful opinion, uncomparable to Tokyo Disneyland :/

We spent so much time queuing up for rides that lasted for less than 2 minutes; souvenir stores that sell substandard stuffs; snacks that were double the price outside and the parade (according to my dad) was lacklustre. *bleahhhh~~~* and it cost us $69 for entry!

We only managed to go on a few rides coz the average waiting time was 45min! -_-"

Nonetheless, the highlight was our impromptu bushwalking at the Gold Coast hinterland at Springbrook National Park.

The drive up north was 2 full hours with about 1hour spent on windy roads up the mountains where Tallanbana picnic area was to begin our walk.

We took the 4km route and took about 3.5 hours to complete because we stopped to admire the awesome rainforest, rock formations and magnificent waterfalls :)

I'll let the pictures do the talking :)

It was a wonderful experience bushwalking and the folks were really great (although they concussed when we got home).

There are many more nature parks in various parts of Queensland and of course wineries and bed & breakfast farm stays too! More weekend trips to come~~ :)

Happy New Year folks! I hope it has been an awesome 2008 for you guys and the new year will be a year of favours from the Lord! :)
