A Few Good Men

Rewatched this 1992 classic movie on AXN just now, and I must say it never fails to get me high, especially towards the last part of the movie, when Tom Cruise was interrogating Jack Nicholson.Guess most of you would have watched it some time back and must admit, this is really a darn good show.
It got me thinking: Do orders preside humanity?
I mean, in the show, there are 2 groups of military people. 1 is the Jack Nicholson one, where they believed that their orders were right and they have the right to give an order that cause a soldier to die...which they think was a noble deed, because it would save more lives if the ill-trained and ill-eqiupped soldier did not go on battlefield.
Another group was Tome Cruise and Demi Moore's group. They are lawyers, they believe in evidence, proof and justice. Although they serve the US Navy, but they are committed the upheld the truth.
Well, I din serve the Army, but one thing I know is that, although I've been ordered by superior to execute it, if i had known that it will be against my conscience because it will cause the death of one of my counterpart, I will definitely disobey the order.
Was arguing with my dad, and he said, normally soldiers would just carry out orders, because that's what they are trained to do: OBEY.
Then I retorted: Even if this means it's at the expense of someone's life. And he didn't answered.
I really wonder if this kind of stuff do happen in the US Army. I can't be sure what kind of other 'dark' secrets lay uncovered inside, but one thing I can be sure of: The higher the rank u go into the military, the more one is deluded into thinking he can play God himself.
In the show, Jack Nicholson doesn't even think he was wrong. He claimed what he did was correct!! Sometimes this kind of people should go and take a lesson on Morality and Humanity.
- Jessep: You want answers?
- Kaffee: I think I'm entitled to them.
- Jessep: You want answers?
- Kaffee: I want the truth!
- Jessep: You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty... We use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
- Kaffee: Did you order the code red?
- Jessep: (quietly) I did the job you sent me to do.
- Kaffee: Did you order the code red?
- Jessep: You're goddamn right I did!!
Life is always such an irony.
