Altivo and NUS Prata

met up with Ben and BiBi for dinner at Altivo ystd nite... was spp to be a 6-man show, but ended up the group was cut to half the orignal number..
anyways, we made our way there nonetheless. We were rather late coz the only bus that goes up the hill is on a 30min frequency. One of their staff called to re-confirm our attendance and i told her we'll have 3 persons instead.
However, when we reach there, another lady told us that Altivo had a private event that evening and all of their patrons were shifted to the other side where Faber Rock is. Honestly, i wasn't really pleased, coz I know Altivo is always packed, that's y I actually called prior to make reservations. But later they found out that it was one of the staff's mistake to forgot to inform us about the private event thing, and we were given 10% off from our bill.
10% was merely the service charge being waived, which honestly, I din think they had derserved the service charge anyway.
For one, their menu for food was pathetic. I mean u haf the ambience, it's good to chill out with drinks, SURELY u nid some nice food to go along with the whole package rite? But sadly no. All they had on their menu of main course, were some freakingly expensive food that we din think warrant that kind of price had it not been for the location. And there were only like what, 10 courses??
So we decided to jus haf some finger food and beer, and later go for supper.
We ordered fries and drumlets, and guess what it took almost 30min for them to serve the food!!! And we were expecting some fanciful deco or culinary skills on these 2 seemingly common finger food, so as to justify for the digusting price ($6 for fries and $12 for 3 drumlets and 3 wings). But NO. Their fries was WORSE than Swensen's and even MOS Burger!!! OMFG. The fries were like so soggy and it din taste like it needed 30min to prepare.
Worse, the drumlets and wings tasted funny. Not like the usual kind u will eat ANYWHERE. haiz. Luckily the jug of tiger beer was still okay.
anyway, we decided to catch the bus and jus when we were walking down the stairs, BiBi saw the bus from afar and we jus started to run!! Luckily we made it in time, else it wud be another 30min before the next bus comes along...
Anyway, we later made our way to West Coast for the famous NUS prata, which was beside the Kent Ridge bus terminal. Sin also met up with us there from hall.
It was quite crowded, and only that area of shops were opened, coz the rest of the place were all private estates or construction sites.
Ordered a cheese prata (their zhao1 pai2) and they all ordered Plaster prata (minus the 'wound'). Plaster is suppose to be the prata with egg that is half-cooked, so the egg white and yolk will like flow out from the prata when u eat. It sounded abit gross when they ordered, but luckily it came, it wasn't that gloo-ey.. heh:P
Ben thought there was Milk prata so he tried to order a milk prata, but the guy who took our orders jus got this look on his face that says "Hey dude, u come from Malaysia ar?" hahaha ;P But actually like what Ben said, if i noe how to do business, i can jus say that i got sell, den get a plain prata and sprinkled with condensed milk lor.... hahaha :P
anyway, i think Casuarina Curry's cheese prata was much better than theirs. coz their cheese prata was quite think, and the cheese was too little. Even MB's house the Alif prata is also better than theirs. hah :)
everyone went home after the prata. It was good night of company but not really a good night of food. PLUS Ben brought his digi cam but with no battery. HAHAHA.
Verdict: Only go Altivo/Faber Rock for drinks, coz that's the FASTEST item on the menu that they can serve. NUS Prata, I guess only NUS people love it. :D
