TGIF Series: Episode 1
Sunday, September 24, 2006 @ 9:44 pm

I reckon I'll have quite a bit of activities going on most of the Fridays, so I'll set up this TGIF series, where I'll introduce to you guys the places I hang out with my frens or dear ones. :)

Last Fri, I manage to meet up with Ben and Sin for dinner and drinks. It was pretty late when we met up but nonetheless, it was a welcome break for the week long of work and as usual, loads of bitching. (As quoted from Ben, I can't say in details wat we bitched about.. Karma ya noe ;P)

Dinner-ed at Renn Thai, one of the more reasonable restaurants at Clark Quay and den we proceeded for drinks. I didn't wan beer coz it was fattening, so Sin suggested this new place further in which was actually a Morroccan themed lounge and bar. It was intricately decorated with those Middle Eastern furniture and drapes, plus booths with couches and swings.

Too bad, we can only settle for rattan rocking chairs outside, but it was quite cool too. Ben wanted to try their shi-sha so we had a mint-flavoured one. The shi-sha equipment was erm, tall. haha I was rather apprehensive about inhaling that thingy coz i thought it'll be equivalent to smoking of sorts. But it was actually nothing, jus like inhaling air or sth. There wasn't even mint taste to it, should haf ordered banana or strawberry. :P

Their cocktails have some cool names. I ordered a "I love you-You love me" and the waitress replied "I love you too" to me. Was quite awkward for a sec, but I admire her courage for having to say that to everyone who ordered that! *claps*

Anyhow, time passes by very quickly, and everyone is tired after a long day from work. We parted before midnight and Ben was coerced to share a cab with me home.. haha :P

It's really darn hard to meet up with the whole gang now... Sighz, we must make more effort people!!! Hope to see everyone real soon! :)

Celebration
Saturday, September 16, 2006 @ 11:11 pm

We marked the end of our 2 weeks long training with a very fun and laughter packed Friday night at Pitstop Cafe, a cosy place that lets you and your group of pals to play silly card/board games and laugh like nobody's business. :D

It's stashed amongst the numerous pubs and karaoke lounges and up on the 3rd floor. The concept is like the oh-so-famous Settler's Cafe, cept that it has the added touch of homey feeling when you're there.

The whole group of us took up almost 3/4 of the shop space and I guessed we raised the noise level a little too high during the 2 hours that we've stayed.

Seriously, if it weren't the office attire we were in, people would have thought we were a bunch of school kids rocking the house.

But I glad I joined them instead of heading home to my bed. It was a really great AND healthy way to hang out with them (besides the 'usual' drinking). The owners each took a photo of us and we get to add graffiti to their if-not-already-much-vandalised-wall. We managed to find an empty space on the electrical fittings of the air-con and kindly left our mark there. :)

Let's all make it a monthly affair to be like big kids and laugh our night away, shall we? ;)

end of Simulation Training
Thursday, September 14, 2006 @ 9:44 pm

Today marks the end of our 3 days of intensive Audit Simulation Training. WOOHOO!!!~~

Though I was kinda overwhelmed by the load of information and excercises to do for the past 3 days, I must say I felt a sense of satisfaction after the training ended. Seriously, I think I feel more confident to start on my first audit job proper, although I still have loads of room for improvement and tonnes to learn from seniors!

Felt really encouraged from the positive feedback from our instructors, Sophia and Ellen. It was truly an enjoyable time with the 2 ladies as our teachers. They let us play charade after lunch to chase away the weariness in the afternoon and were extremely helpful in attending to our queries, be it the technical ones and admin stuffs as well.

New friends were made and I thank God for the wonderful working environment and abundant opportunities to learn and improve. Really thankful to everyone for the past 2 weeks!!

Am glad also that my PGL aka Peer Group Learning team are a bunch of fun people! These other 9 people will be with me in future for any kinds of training in office and outings with our managers and partners as well. Hope most of us will at least stay together for the next 3 years. :)

Took some photos during the break today! These are my PGL mates instructors for simulation. Btw, these are all taken with the guys' handphone cameras!! Darn good!! ;D

Seriously, I haven seen most of them in NTU before, but I guess since all of us comes from the same school, it's much easier to bond and learn together.

Will be starting on my FIRST audit job next Tue!! Having mixed feelings now, hope everything turns out well! Just wanna congratulate everyone for the great effort put in during this simulation and for the past 2 weeks! Let's all work hard together!!! :D:D:D

surviving one week....
Friday, September 08, 2006 @ 9:41 pm

Thank God it's Friday!!

Though I dun feel too excited about it, but it sure is a welcome relief to one whole week of training at PwC.

It's as if I'm back in NTU, where we sat through lectures/seminars/tutorials, doing excercises with handouts, writing notes and colourful pens. I kinda quite like it, coz honestly, I miss school :/

Middle of the week, start to feel weary of all the technical stuff that they're teaching, but I really appreciate the effort of the managers in taking their time off to teach us. Not forgetting 'imparting' us some useful real-life survival skills :)

No Outlook Express, but Lotus Notes. A new form of chatting with colleagues is via SameTime Connect software. Using the laptop to type notes and being mouse-less, are just some of the new habits I've picked up. Not forgetting the numerous passwords we have to remember in order to log into the system and Lotus Notes.

I love this lady called Lee Shin. She's the audit manager and in the same assurance group as me! *beams* She's really farni and a very confident lady. Love her natural charm and charisma, and not forgetting her affable personality and sometimes corny jokes. :) Hope I'll be able to work with her on future job assignments next time.

After a long week (or rather 5 days), I guess I'm much adjusted to this new job now. Everyone is warm and friendly. Guess it's those mentality of 同坐一条船 ba.

Found a colleague that stays 2 bus stops away from me and he's in the same counselling group as well. Great to know that next time we can share cab back togethers! :P

I guess it isn't so bad after all when everything settles in. Right now, it's just keeping my mind and eyes open and making use of every opportunity to make friends and learn on the job.

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

First day of work
Monday, September 04, 2006 @ 9:55 pm

Luckily I made it a point to wake up extra early and leave my house on time to get to work.

Thank God for the smooth traffic and almost ZERO waiting time to transfer buses and train! :)

Was real early when I reached my office and hOi hasn't reached yet. Her bf is so nice to specially fetch her from her house!! (why nv come and fetch me har?? :P)

Morning started with the usual welcome pep-talk by the Learning & Education Partner and after that were more of administration stuffs, simple house keeping.

Lunch was at the famous curry fish head near Amoy Hawker Centre with Li Li, hOi, Xian Pei and me. It was good!! The fish was so tender and the weird thing was only I finished up all the brinjals and lady fingers in the curry! Although the lunch was short, but it was a good one because it has been some time since we ate with Li Li. :)

People in the orientation were largely dominated by NTU peepes; cept 2 SMU ppl and 1 from Aussie Uni. But I think overall everyone is quite friendly. me and Hoi already quite gum with the people at our table. We have an Indonesian, a PRC and a Hong Kong + 2 Singaporeans. Not bad eh? Multicultural within 1 table.

But sadly, I'm separated from hOi in terms of grouping again. Assigned to Group A, and we sit on the 13th Floor. Even the type of clients also different amongst Groups A&B and C&D.

We spent almost the entire afternoon doing up our laptops. Disappointingly, the rumoured brand new Lenovo was actually a dust and scratches covered IBM ThinkPad T40. BAH.

Loads of problems setting up the passwords (we need at least 3 before we can see the desktop!) and errors of accessing drives and using the all-so-famous Lotus Notes.

Anyhow, at the end of the day, everyone was busy checking up their assignments. Luckily for me, my first one was a foreign bank, something of which I'm rather keen to be doing it, hopefully can really learn a lot. And it's near office too! So i'll still be in the Raffles Area ;P I have engagements booked until next April before a 2.5months of ultra-low-peak period sets in.

Our annual DnD will also be coming in Oct! (that's so fast, considering we only just joined!); there's Family Day in Nov also! Really looking forward to these events! But hOi is just half as enthu as me (esp the DnD). But i guess it'll be a very good opportunity to interact with everyone and see the who's-who in the company so at least next time when I run into them down the corridor, I won't feel so strange :)

That's all for today. Hopefully the next 2 weeks will be really fruitful! :)

of bits and pieces
Sunday, September 03, 2006 @ 3:27 pm

Finally ended my 2 months temp job at Fullerton. Only got myself 3 days during the weekend to re-charged before starting on my first full-time, permanent job over at PwC.

Finally.

it has been almost 9 months, after confirmation of a job this Sept, and seriously, I really don't know if I should be excited. Or not.

Nonetheless, I shan't bother myself with these unpredictables coz it'll just take up too much of my time.

So it's more shopping!! *wahaha*

Spent Sat afternoong walking around town with MB, and I swear, I have seriously warned myself that I shouldn't be spending anymore (at least not until my previous month's pay check is in) but somehow I couldn't resist in getting a few more hair clips and accessories; a new M.A.C. lipstick and a USB Hub for my NEW external harddisk I got from Comex 2006 on Friday.

There. Easily $200 gone in 2 days. :/:/:/

When am I going to save enough for my first condo, my wedding and my honeymoon in Maldives??? Bah!

Other than shopping, MB's company made my day. More hugs and kisses and of course, camwhoring!! hahah I luuurve to take pictures of us, but he doesn't. So yesterday were some of the rare occasions that he actually relented. :P

stare game
the mighty mouses

From L-R: We decided to pretend we're having a fight. But i guess we're too cute to look angry :P I love this pic! We look like 2 mighty mice making farni faces at each other. hur hur hur :P

Samsoon style

I purposely asked MB to do this. Those who find it familiar: Yes, if you've finished watching My Lovely Samsoon, this was one of the 7 things Samsoon asked Sanshi to do when they got together. Sarang haeyo!!! *muacks*

damn those eye bags whose foot is bigger?
tongue twisters

Top left: I have bunny ears!!!
Top Right:Ok obviously, MB has a bigger foot than me. But truthfully, i'm half a size bigger! x_x
Bottom: Trying to see who's tongue is longer.

P/S: The above 'act cute' shots were courtesy of NadynesHu and her MB. ;D

It's 1st day of work tomorrow!! and i have to be there early and meeting hOi at Raffles MRT at 8.10am! OMG, i can barely peel myself out when I was working from 9am at Fullerton. God give me strength and kill those sleeping bugs and panda eyes!!!!
